Job description for Finance & Compliance Associate at Kongsi

About Kongsi

Kongsi is building a shared freight platform for Indonesia.

Today, trucks often travel partially empty, while businesses shipping smaller loads can end up paying for an entire truck. Kongsi solves this by grouping compatible shipments together, improving truck utilization and making freight more affordable.

We are an early-stage, post-seed company building toward our MVP. You will be joining at the beginning of Kongsi's journey, as one of our first employees and one of the first members of our operations team. You will have a meaningful opportunity to help shape not just what we build, but how we operate.

About the Role

As a Finance & Compliance Associate, you will help own the day-to-day finance operations of Kongsi and support financial and regulatory compliance across our Singapore holding company and Indonesian entities.

This is not a role where you inherit an established finance function. You will help build it. You will be responsible for setting up practical systems and processes, establishing good financial discipline, and then running the function independently as Kongsi grows.

Because the role involves financial and regulatory responsibilities across two jurisdictions, we are looking for someone with practical experience, strong ownership, and excellent attention to detail.

What You'll Do

  • Set up and manage day-to-day bookkeeping, invoicing, expenses, payables, receivables, and bank reconciliations
  • Prepare monthly financial reports and maintain accurate, organized financial records
  • Track tax, corporate, and regulatory deadlines across Singapore and Indonesia
  • Coordinate with external accountants, tax advisors, auditors, and other service providers
  • Build and continuously improve finance processes, systems, and controls as Kongsi grows

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 2–4 years of practical experience in accounting, finance, tax, or a related role
  • Good understanding of accounting principles, financial records, and reporting
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and ownership
  • Comfortable working independently and building processes where none exist

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Indonesian and Singapore finance or regulatory compliance
  • Experience working in an early-stage startup or building a finance function from scratch
  • Experience working with external accountants, tax advisors, or corporate secretarial firms
  • Comfortable using AI tools to improve reconciliation, reporting, research, and other finance workflows

What Success Looks Like After 90 Days

  • Finance systems are established: bookkeeping, invoicing, expenses, payments, reconciliations, and reporting are running through clear and documented processes
  • Compliance is under control: all key tax, corporate, and regulatory obligations are tracked with clear owners and deadlines
  • Reporting is reliable: management receives accurate and timely financial information to make decisions
  • The finance playbook is taking shape: you have established practical processes and controls that can scale as Kongsi grows
  • Finance runs independently: you can manage the day-to-day finance function with minimal supervision and continuously improve it as the company grows

Interview process

Our Recruitment Process

We keep our recruitment process simple and focused. Since you may be joining Kongsi at an early stage, we want both sides to have a good understanding of the role, the team, and what we are building before making a decision

1. People Interview

Initial screening & fit

A conversation with our People team to understand your background, experience, motivations, and expectations. We'll also walk you through the role and answer any questions you may have.

This stage helps us determine whether there is a strong overall fit and whether the role matches what you're looking for.

2. User Interview

Role-specific assessment

A deeper interview with the person you would work with directly. We'll discuss your relevant experience, technical knowledge, problem-solving approach, and how you would handle situations you are likely to encounter in the role.

This is the main opportunity for us to assess your ability to do the job.

3. Product Demo

See what we're building

If you progress to this stage, we'll share a demo of Kongsi's product with you.

Because you'll be joining us at an early stage, we believe it's important for you to understand what we're building, the problem we're solving, and where we are today. This is also an opportunity for you to ask questions and share your thoughts.

4. Founder's Interview

Culture & mutual fit

The final stage is a conversation with our Founder and CEO.

We'll talk about Kongsi's vision, how we work, what we value, and what it means to join the company at this stage. We'll also want to understand how you think, what motivates you, and whether we believe you would thrive as an early member of the team.

This is a two-way conversation. We want you to decide whether Kongsi is the right place for you just as much as we want to determine whether you're right for Kongsi.

About the company
Kongsi
11 - 50 employees

Across the logistics industry, trucks and containers travel with unused space while businesses pay too much to move shipments that are too small to fill them.

Kongsi brings businesses and logistics partners together, consolidating shipments moving along the same route so freight can move with shared capacity instead of every business solving the same challenge alone.

By coordinating fragmented demand, Kongsi aims to create fuller loads, more viable freight lanes and fewer inefficient journeys. Shippers gain access to more economical transportation, logistics providers improve capacity utilisation, and the wider supply chain benefits from a more productive way of working.

Our name, Kongsi, means to share. Our culture is inspired by the spirit of gotong royong: communities working together, sharing responsibility and achieving what no individual could accomplish alone. Share the Load. Lower the Cost.
