Job description for Education Lead at Bali Children Foundation

Bali Children Foundation (BCF): Education to Employment

Starting in 2002, BCF has worked one village at a time to help poor, remote or disaster-impacted villages. After identifying a village with disadvantaged families, our local staff members work together with the village leaders to introduce families to BCF and the opportunities our scholarships and curriculum provide.

Our vision is for disadvantaged communities in Bali and nearby islands to become socially, economically and culturally empowered through the pathway of education to employment. Our mission is to improve the education standards for children living in disadvantaged regions of Bali and nearby islands so that they can achieve better incomes for themselves, their families and broader communities.

BCF’s work to provide quality education in remote government SDN schools includes the provision of curriculum, some direct teaching and extensive teacher training across schools in Bali, Lombok and West Sumba.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Program Management

● Lead the program development include the program implementation, monitoring and evaluation tools, stakeholder mapping, and implementation of education programs and curricula that empower disadvantaged children and enable them to access employment opportunities, particularly in the areas of English as a Foreign Language (EFL), Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Humanity, and Early Childhood Education (ECE), and partnership program such as Pen Pal for Primary School, Teacher In a Box (TIB) and others.

● Monitor program performance on EFL, STEAM-H, ECE, and partnership programs and identify areas for continuous improvement.

● Produce reports on EFL, STEAM-H, ECE, partnership program performance and impact that work seamlessly with the existing reporting.

● Develop budget forecast needed to implement EFL, STEAM-H, ECE, and partnership programs.

● Plan and support the marketing team that raises funding for EFL, STEAM-H, ECE, partnership programs.

● Research and apply for grants to support EFL, STEAM-H, ECE, and partnership programs.

● Oversee BCF’s EFL, STEAM-H, and ECE equipment and asset monitoring systems at schools, which need to be updated and followed-up by the teachers, the facilitators, and the admin support on a regular basis.

● Collaborate with partner schools and other stakeholders to create and deliver impactful community-based programs, including expanding EFL, STEAM-H, ECE and partnership programs to other opportunity areas.

● Ensure that EFL, STEAM-H, ECE, and partnership programs are aligned with the Foundation's vision, mission, goals and objectives.

● Maintain awareness of BCF’s Five Year Plan and monitor curricula goal achievement.

2. Leadership and Management

● Provide leadership and guidance to a team of Education staff in planning, implementing, monitoring, and reporting EFL, STEAM-H and ECE programs.

● Build and maintain strong relationships for program implementation advocacy with government, partner schools (headmasters, teachers, parents) and other stakeholders, particularly in EFL, STEAM-H, and ECE implementation.

● Recruit and onboard strong EFL, STEAM-H and ECE team members.

● Manage team performance on EFL, STEAM-H and ECE programming and provide regular feedback and performance review.

3. Program Scheduling

● Create annual calendars for EFL, STEAM-H, ECE and partnership programs.

● Schedule field support, including facilitation of capacity-building for EFL, STEAM-H, and ECE programs.

● Prepare sponsor visits or donor visits on EFL, STEAM-H and ECE implementation that are scheduled successfully during the school year with key dates for exams and holidays blacked out on the calendar.

● Prepare collateral required for school visits on EFL, STEAM-H and ECE in conjunction with Community Lead and Relationships Lead, e.g. t-shirts, name tags, stationeries and materials needed.

● Schedule school upgrade projects on EFL, STEAM-H and ECE in conjunction with Community Lead to ensure timely and effective delivery.

4. Teacher Training

● Schedule teacher training for EFL, STEAM-H and ECE curricula.

● Lead EFL. STEAM-H and ECE facilitator team.

● Design and schedule EFL, STEAM-H and ECE implementation process.

● Review EFL, STEAM-H and ECE goals and propose new solutions to achieve the goals, including their implementation scheduling.

● Maintain program communication schedules and schedule year-end Pen Pal Program Graduation for primary school students.

● Teacher in a Box Program for delivery into BCF Lombok schools.

● Facilitate regular face-to-face teacher training programs for teacher facilitators, BCF teachers, and government teachers with evaluation with appropriate follow-up to improve their teaching strategies and methodologies using active learning strategies and student-centered learning.

● Conduct regular monitoring and evaluation, as well as classroom observation activities, with teacher facilitators and teachers through online platforms and onsite, capturing lessons learned, best practices, and challenges faced by teachers and students during program implementation.

● Review BCF teachers’ weekly and monthly journals for teaching improvement, shared reflections, and follow-up.

● Maintain daily and weekly coordination and communication with teacher facilitators, BCF teachers and government teachers. Schedule weekly meetings with facilitators in all BCF regions.

● Collect and analyze all data, including pre-test, progress test, post-test, student enrolment data, teacher and school data, from teacher facilitators, BCF teachers, and government teachers for implementation evidence of all education programs – in conjunction with Data Lead and Program Implementation Lead.

● Maintain documentation and reports of EFL, STEAM-H and ECE programs, including Evidence and Implementation (E&I) reports, data spreadsheets, and presentation slides.

● Maintain daily, weekly and monthly updates and reports of EFL, STEAM-H and ECE programs, discussing strategies, challenges, and good practices.

Qualifications:

● Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in English Education, TESOL, Early Childhood, Primary Education, Science/STEM or related field.

● Proven experience in leading Education Program Development and Implementation.

● Proven skills in program monitoring, evaluation and reporting.

● Familiarity with the Indonesian education system and regional contexts (Nusa Tenggara and Bali).

● Proficiency in written and spoken English.

● Keen attention to detail, excellent memory, and exceptional organisational skills.

● Capable of working under pressure and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

● Strong planning, reporting, and teamwork abilities.

● Willingness to travel frequently to remote program areas.

● If not Bali based, willing to relocate to Bali at own expense.
