Common Seas is a not-for-profit enterprise on a mission to quickly and significantly reduce the amount of plastic produced and stop it polluting our rivers and seas. Our global team works across government, business, and society to leverage change by driving new policy, investing in the circular economy, and catalyzing a cultural shift in how we make, use and dispose plastic.
How you will support our mission
Clean Blue Alliance is a methodology that turns our theory of systems changes into action – delivering practical, on-the-ground demonstrations of circular economy solutions. Common Seas runs Clean Blue projects in three countries, each chosen for its plastic waste challenge's complexity and appetite for change. Together with our partners, Common Seas Indonesia is on a mission to stop plastic pollution from entering the Brantas River, transforming it into a source of healthy drinking water for the millions of people along its banks.
The Brantas is one of the most polluted rivers in the world, and the single-use diaper is amongst the most prolific plastic items found in the river. Our local team is initially focused on stopping the flow of single-use diapers into the river in a way that brings widespread and long-lasting social and economic benefits to the region.
We’re doing this by creating a market for reusable diapers, improving the management of diaper waste, and cleaning up existing waste hotspots along the river. Our reusable diaper initiative aims to train and employ hundreds of local women and stop over 3.5M diapers from entering the Brantas in 2021. We are looking for a hardworking problem solver who can manage a team, follow up a project end to end, oversee a budget, and get things done. And also, someone who believes in growing a purpose-driven business – not profit first.
We currently distribute our reusable diapers through our CSR offer in partnership with philanthropic companies and retailers/ resellers, which we will continue to do so. The direct-to-customer enterprise is aimed at giving access not only to our beneficiaries of CSR programs but also to other people to make the program sustainable, even after a CSR project is delivered. You will therefore need to support these CSR projects, as you will oversee production while administering the program. Your essential duty will be to analyze the impact of the social return on investment.
We are in the progress of designing and launching a campaign promoting the benefits of reusable diapers in partnership with our professional branding and marketing agency; you will be responsible for directing the campaign strategy and implementation.
We’re looking for a Head of Business Development to join the Indonesian leadership team and will be responsible for initiating and managing relationships with our growing number of partners to scale the impact of our flagship program: Reusable diaper program around the Brantas, and Indonesian rivers in long term strategy.
The Job is split into two main priorities:
Number 1 priority: make sure we deliver the reusable diapers on time to our partners and analyze our program's impact. Our practice is according to our triple bottom line principles (livelihoods, environment, profit), with the right quality according to our target of producing 100,000 diapers in 2022 and continuing to scale in 2023.
Reusable Diaper business enterprise: build and launch the direct-to-customer business, marketing plan, and strategy - talk about delivering strategy - which aims at making our project sustainable, providing access to affordable reusable diapers – again aligned to our principles.
