Role Overview
Merlin’s Restaurant is looking for an experienced and hands-on *Assistant Chef* to join our kitchen team.
This role is suitable for a motivated chef who enjoys working in a creative restaurant environment, maintaining food quality during service, supporting daily kitchen preparation, and working closely with the team to ensure smooth operations.
Key Responsibilities;
* Assist with daily food preparation and kitchen service
* Prepare dishes according to recipes, portion standards, and presentation guidelines
* Ensure mise en place is ready before service
* Maintain consistency in food quality, taste, and presentation
* Support the kitchen team during busy service periods
* Maintain cleanliness, hygiene, and food safety standards in the kitchen
* Assist with stock checking and report low stock, damaged items, or quality issues
* Minimise food wastage through proper storage, portioning, and preparation
* Keep kitchen equipment, workstations, and storage areas clean and organised
* Assist with preparation for special menus, events, and promotions
* Follow kitchen SOPs, recipes, and operational standards at all times
* Support a positive, professional, and cooperative kitchen environment
Requirements;
* Minimum 1–2 years of experience as Chef de Partie, Senior Cook, Assistant Chef, or in a similar kitchen role
* Strong understanding of food preparation, kitchen hygiene, and food safety
* Able to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment
* Good knowledge of basic stock control and minimising food wastage
* Detail-oriented, disciplined, reliable, and responsible
* Able to work well as part of a team
* Able to communicate in Bahasa Indonesia; basic English is an advantage
* Willing to be based in Ubud, Bali
